Baldwin High School students returned to class Monday afternoon after a suspicious item found inside the school prompted an evacuation for nearly two hours, officials said.
Nassau County police swept the building and there's "nothing to be concerned about," school district spokeswoman Cristina Schmohl said.
Officers responded to the scene after receiving a 911 call at 11:44 a.m. reporting the item -- "possibly, a grenade" police said the caller reported -- had been discovered.
Police have so far been unable to confirm details of their search -- or if they have examined the item in question.
Schmohl said police determined there to be "no danger" and students were allowed to return to the school on Ethel T. Kloberg Drive at about 1:30 p.m.
