Baldwin man killed in chain-saw accident, cops say

A man was fatally injured in Baldwin on Friday when he apparently lost control of a chain saw he was using and slashed himself in the neck, police said.

Theofilos Zervos, 35, of 2873 Bayview Ave., was cutting wood at the side of his house when the accident occurred, Nassau police said.

His girlfriend arrived at 5 p.m. and found him lying injured at the north side of the house. It was unclear at what time Zervos was injured.

The girlfriend immediately called 911, and police, Baldwin Fire department volunteers, and a Nassau police ambulance crew responded, police said, but Zervos was pronounced dead at the scene at 5:20 p.m.

First Squad detectives were investigating the apparent accident, police said.
