First Squad detectives are looking for two men who entered a Baldwin residence Sunday in an apparent burglary attempt and then assaulted a man with a handgun, Nassau County police said.

At about 8:40 p.m., the two men knocked on a door at a Parsonage Street residence and were let in by the occupant, a 45-year-old man. One of the suspects then displayed a handgun and struck the man twice, in the head and neck, while the other suspect kicked and punched the victim, police said.

The home's occupant fought back, and the two suspects left without taking anything, police said.

In a Monday morning news release, police did not provide information about the suspect's condition.

Anyone with information on the incident can call Crime Stoppers at 800-244-8477. All calls will be kept confidential.
