Barnes & Noble: Plans to replace Manhasset store fell through

Officials from Barnes & Noble say that a developer’s plans to replace their Manhasset store with a medical office building have fallen through.
The plans had been approved by the North Hempstead Zoning Board of Appeals last week.
The store is at 1542 Northern Blvd. in Manhasset.
“The property owner was previously in discussions to redevelop the property, but they have told us that those plans are no longer being pursued. We have a lease through the end of 2017 and will work to extend as that time approaches,” David Deason, vice president of development at Barnes & Noble, said in a statement issued to Newsday.
The developer, listed in town records as C&B Realty # 1 LLC, had requested building permits in 2015, but were denied by the town’s building department. The town’s zoning board approved a variance request last week to allow them to accommodate fewer and smaller parking spaces than the town code allowed. Plans called for an interior renovation of the structure, with retail space occupying the building.
The board ordered the developer to receive approvals from the Village of North Hills for its proposed parking lot, retaining wall and a site plan review. The board also ordered that customer parking be handled by a valet service.
