One of the very few local races on November's state-saturated ballot is for receiver of taxes in the Town of North Hempstead - a special election to fill a vacancy left last year when six-year incumbent Rocco Iannarelli departed to become a New York Power Authority vice president under Richard Kessel, current NYPA president and chief executive, also from Nassau County. In the contest so far, Jeffrey Bass, Republican candidate, says he'd push to make the job more "robust" and assume comptroller tasks. He's challenging incumbent Charles Berman - who joined a group of other electeds last week in Mineola to endorse fellow Nassau Democrat Thomas DiNapoli for state comptroller.
