Bayville mayor defends telling residents to ‘get a life’ on Facebook

Bayville Mayor Paul Rupp stood by recent comments he made on Facebook criticizing some residents.
On a Facebook page for Bayville politics, Rupp responded to a citizen who had a question about a Nassau County water regulation prohibiting residents from hosing off their driveways, a screenshot of the Facebook post shows.
“All you people need to get a life a real life! Typical Bayville!! Complain about everything! What can I get away with this time without getting caught!” the mayor wrote June 12.
After residents, including the original poster, responded, Rupp continued to engage.
In another comment, he wrote: “Inmates trying to run the asylum and do whatever they want and whenever they want!”
Some residents were upset with Rupp’s response. One Facebook user wrote: “Is this the Mayor of our town speaking like this??? Seriously????”
Asked about his comments Saturday by News 12 Long Island, Rupp said he will continue to “tell you what’s on my mind.”

“Some people like it, some people don’t. But I can guarantee you for the last three years since I took over office, a lot of residents are happy with the performance.”
The mayor did not return Newsday’s request for comment Monday.
