Beaches closed by excessive bacteria in water

The following beaches are closed to swimming due to excessive levels of bacteria found in the water, said the Suffolk County health and the state parks departments.

In Suffolk, Benjamin Beach, East Islip Beach, Huntington Beach Community Association, Tanner Park Beach, Iron Pier Beach and Camp Baiting Hollow Sound Beach all are shut until further notice.

In Nassau, swimming in Zach's Bay, which is located in Jones Beach State Park, is prohibited, state officials said.
