Bellmore cyclist AJ Borowski is more than 1,500 miles into his cross-country trip, trying to raise money to fight blood cancer in memory of his mother, according to News 12 Long Island.
On Monday, in a Borowski update, News 12 reported he was in Oklahoma after starting in Virginia in late August along the TransAmerica Bicycle trail.
Playing bluegrass and folk music on his guitar during his stops, Borowski, 26, is raising money after his mother, Maria, died of leukemia in July 2014.
Weather permitting, Borowski's plan was to ride up to 10 to 12 hours daily. He guessed it would take three months to make the 5,000-mile trek to California.
Borowski's quest is featured on the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Team in Training website, which says he has raised more than $10,000 of his $15,000 goal.
