A bicyclist died after he was hit by a sport utility vehicle Friday evening in Locust Valley, police said.

The cyclist, identified only as a 55-year-old man, was riding eastbound on Forest Avenue when he fell off his bike and was struck by a 2015 Jeep Patriot, also traveling eastbound, at 8:02 p.m., Nassau County police said in a news release.

The driver, an 18-year-old woman whose name was not released, remained at the scene until police arrived, the news release stated.

The bicyclist was taken to Northwell Health’s Glen Cove Hospital where he died at 8:40 p.m., police said. The identity of the victim is being withheld by police until they notify his family. The driver was uninjured.

Police conducted a brake and safety check on the Jeep before it was released back to the owner, police said.

No criminality is suspected but police are continuing to investigate the incident.
