A Lido Beach bicyclist was badly injured in a crash with a van near the driveway of the Lido Beach Golf Club on Wednesday, Nassau County police said.

Nassau County police were investigating what a department news release called a “non-criminal accident” after the cyclist, a 35-year-old man from Far Rockaway, was taken to a hospital with a severe head injury. He was in critical condition.

The cyclist was traveling west on the north side of Lido Beach when he collided with the van, which was traveling east and turning into the golf club driveway about 4:28 p.m., police said.

Police checked the van’s brakes and released it to the driver. It was not immediately clear if the cyclist was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
