A 19-year-old bicyclist crossing Greenwich Street in Hempstead was struck by a sport utility vehicle and killed Friday, Nassau County police said.

Police said Jose Miranda of Hempstead was transported to Winthrop-University Hospital in Mineola, where he was pronounced dead. He suffered "multiple fractures" and "serious head trauma," police said in a news release late Sunday.

Miranda was riding southbound and was attempting to cross Greenwich when he was struck by a 2010 GMC Sierra driven by a 59-year-old Baldwin man at 7:17 p.m., police said. The vehicle was impounded for a safety check.

No charges were filed against the unidentified driver.
