Nassau County's Homicide Squad is still looking for the black BMW that was traveling the wrong way when it struck and killed a pedestrian early Sunday as he crossed Fulton Avenue in Hempstead.

Police on Tuesday identified the victim as Jeremias Chavarria, 39, of Hempstead.

Detectives said a 2000 black BMW with New York license plate GEU3305 was traveling west in the eastbound lane of Fulton Avenue about 1:17 a.m. when it hit Chavarria near Bennett Avenue.

The driver fled west on Peninsula Boulevard, detectives said.

Chavarria was taken by ambulance to Nassau University Medical Center in East Meadow, where he was pronounced dead.

Anyone with information can call Crime Stoppers at 800-244-8477. All calls will be kept confidential.
