New York State Police respond to reports of a body found Friday morning by a jogger along the Wantagh State Parkway in Wantagh. (Nov. 18, 2011) Credit: Jim Staubitser

State Police are investigating the discovery of a body along the Wantagh State Parkway.

Trooper Frank Bandiero said the body was found by a jogger near a bicycle path adjacent to the parkway shortly before 8 a.m. Friday.

The victim was not immediately identified. Bandiero said he was a white man in his 50s.

He was taken to Nassau University Medical Center, where he was declared dead.

The police spokesman said an autopsy would be performed to determine the cause of death.
