A body found in waters off Bellmore Thursday has been determined to be that of a 66-year-old man, Nassau police said Friday.

Homicide detectives did not name the man but said there did not appear to be any crime involved in his death.

County marine bureau police had joined the Hempstead Town Bay Constable Thursday morning to investigate an unoccupied, 19-foot boat that was found near Big Crow Island and Broad Creek Channel, which is east of the Meadowbrook State Parkway.

It was then that the man was found submerged in the water near the boat, authorities said. He was pronounced dead about 1:10 p.m., according to police.

Detectives believe the boat belonged to the man, police said.

Other details were not released but police said the investigation is ongoing.
