The Oyster Bay Branch of the Long Island Rail Road was temporarily shut down Monday after a body was discovered on the tracks in Mineola, railroad officials said.

Both Metropolitan Transportation Authority and Nassau County police are on scene.

Police said the report of a body on the tracks was received at about 10:25 a.m.

The third rail powering the Oyster Bay branch has been de-energized, railroad spokesman Rich Mendelson said, so police can walk the track - in an attempt to investigate the incident. Additional details were not immediately available.

The scene is near where the Oyster Bay branch joins the Main Line track in Mineola, Mendelson said. But trains on the main line have not been affected, Mendelson said.
