Broken rail causes brief LIRR delays
A broken rail on an eastbound track near Floral Park Friday morning delayed four westbound Long Island Rail Road trains between 6:38 a.m. and 7:32 a.m., the authority said.
The LIRR said it anticipated delays of five to 10 minutes because eastbound trains would have to use the westbound track while repairs were made, spokesman Rich Mendelson said.
"We figured alternating traffic would could slow things down," he said.
However, the delays were minor, with four trains being delayed a total of six minutes, he said.
The authority said the rail was repaired at about 7:30 a.m.
