A Hempstead man was arrested Saturday and charged with burglarizing two homes last month after detectives used fingerprints found at the home to identify him, Nassau County police said.

Police said Jahkeem Jiles, 23, burglarized a Talmadge Drive home in Baldwin about 1 a.m. June 15, slipping in through a front window while the two residents inside were asleep.

Jiles stole a wallet and keys from the homeowner's pocketbook before fleeing, police said. The victims slept through the burglary, according to police.

About four hours later, police said, Jiles climbed into the rear window of a home on Henry Street in Roosevelt.

Jiles took cash and three cellphones from that home, but the resident, who was asleep inside the home, woke up as Jiles left his room, police said.

The victim began chasing Jiles, but couldn't find him, police said. But the victim did find the wallet from the earlier Talmadge Drive burglary in his driveway, according to police.

Prints that detectives lifted from the two homes led to Jiles, who was arrested and charged with two counts of second-degree burglary.

At his arraignment Sunday at First District Court in Hempstead, Jiles was ordered held on $45,000 cash bail or $90,000 bond, according to online court records. He is due back in court on Wednesday.
