A Westbury man told police he awoke early Thursday morning to find a burning can of gasoline on the hood of his car.

Now, Nassau County police Arson Bomb Squad detectives and Nassau fire marshals are investigating the incident.

Police said the incident occurred at 3:05 a.m. on Cross Street in Westbury. They said the man said he was awakened by his car alarm and went outside to find the burning can of gasoline on his hood. The fire damaged the hood and engine compartment, police said.

The Westbury Fire Department responded to the scene and extinguished the fire.

Police said the fire is suspicious and are asking anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers at 800-244-TIPS. All callers will remain anonymous.
