Bicyclist hit, injured by school bus in Bethpage, police say
A bicyclist was seriously injured Wednesday morning when he was struck by a mini-school bus as he crossed an intersection in Bethpage, Nassau County police said.
The bicyclist was identified only as a 49-year-old man. He was taken to Nassau University Medical Center in East Meadow with “head trauma” and was listed in serious condition, according to police.
Police said there were eight high school students on the Acme minibus and said there were no reported injuries.
The crash occurred at the intersection of North Wantagh Avenue and Hicksville Road at about 7:10 a.m. Police said the bicyclist was headed south on Hicksville Road, while the bus, driven by a woman, 32, was headed north on North Wantagh Avenue. The bus driver stopped at the scene, police said.
The road was closed for the investigation, but has been reopened. No one has been charged in the crash.
