Busted horn means slow train
The Long Island Rail Road could have used Dinah's horn Friday morning - on the 11:10 a.m. train from Ronkonkoma to Penn Station, to be exact.
Officials said the train was being taken out of service at Jamaica Station after running at least 20 minutes late because of a "defective horn" that required the crew to slow the engine to just 15 mph at grade crossings.
Normally, railroad spokesman Sal Arena said, the train would do between 60 and 80 mph at those crossings.
The Federal Railroad Administration has minimum horn requirements for crossings.
"Obviously, there's a safety issue without the horn," Arena said. The train was scheduled to arrive in Penn Station at 12:32 p.m., he said.
