Cabbie, two others arrested after altercation in Hempstead
A Roosevelt cabdriver and two men who robbed him face assault and weapons possession charges after a Sunday incident in Hempstead, Nassau County Third Squad detectives said.
According to a police report, Josue Hernandez, 25, of 70 E. Roosevelt Ave., was driving a cab north on Franklin Street Sunday at about 8:30 p.m. when he noticed two men following him in a black 1997 Honda.
Hernandez stopped at the corner of North Franklin Avenue and Union Place, left his taxi armed with a knife and approached the Honda, police said. The two men in the Honda also left their car, armed with baseball bats. In the altercation that ensued, police said the two men took cash and a cell phone from Hernandez after striking him with the bats.
Hernandez stabbed one man in the lower back during the altercation, police said.
All three men fled the scene, and police found Hernandez on Babylon Turnpike at about 9:45 p.m. He was arrested and treated at Nassau University Medical Center in East Meadow.
Just after midnight on Monday, police arrested the men in the Honda, Greudis Duran, 19, and Gueris Duran, 17, both of 6 Gold St., Freeport.
Greudis Duran was arrested at the Third Precinct and charged with robbery and possession of a dangerous weapon, police said. Geuris Duran was arrested at Nassau University Medical Center where he had been admitted in guarded condition for his injuries.
Josue Hernandez, who is charged with assault and possession of a dangerous weapon, and Greudis Duran are scheduled to be arraigned Monday at First District Court in Hempstead, police said.
Arraignment information for Geuris Duran was not immediately available.
