Car at synagogue etched with swastikas
A man parked his vehicle overnight for the Sabbath on Friday afternoon at a Great Neck synagogue -- and Saturday morning the car was found scratched with swastikas, Nassau County police said.
Police are investigating who vandalized the 39-year-old man's 1998 Mercedes-Benz at the Babylonian Jewish Center. Jews who don't drive on the Sabbath sometimes park their vehicles at a synagogue before sunset and walk home. They drive home once the Sabbath ends.
The vandalism happened sometime between Friday at 4:30 p.m. and Saturday at 11 a.m. before the man's son went for morning services at the synagogue, at 440 Great Neck Rd.
The vehicle also had "numerous other scratch marks," police said. The case is being investigated by Nassau's 6th Squad detectives, based in Manhasset.
