A car went off the road and crashed into an overpass wall on the Southern State Parkway near West Hempstead on Sunday morning, New York State Police said.

Police said they received a call at 6:45 a.m. reporting the crash on the eastbound Southern State Parkway at Exit 17.

The car went off the road, up on the dirt, took out an exit sign, then crashed into an overpass wall, police said.

One person was taken to a hospital. Police said the cause of the crash is under investigation.

On Saturday, a motorcyclist traveling east was killed when he crested a hill between Exits 17 and 18 and collided with the back of a van during stop-and-go traffic.
