An 86-year-old man suffered head and leg injuries Wednesday when he was struck by a car as he crossed Old Country Road in Plainview, Nassau County police said.

The man, whose name was not released, was taken to Nassau University Medical Center in East Meadow. His condition was not immediately known Thursday.

Police said he was crossing Old Country Road near Orchard Street at 8:56 p.m. when he was hit by a westbound Mercury driven by a 55-year-old woman.

The driver, whose name was not released, remained at the scene, police said.

The road was closed for about two hours during the investigation, which determined there was no criminality involved, police said.

The vehicle was impounded for a brake and safety check.
