Cause of death unclear for man found on tracks
One day after a New Jersey man was found dead on the eastbound tracks at the Long Island Rail Road station in Merrick, investigators still are not sure how he died -- or if he had been hit by a previous train before being discovered.
The only thing investigators seem certain of so far is Neelan Mannuelpillai, 23, of Plainsboro, N.J., didn't jump in front of a train Wednesday, railroad spokesman Aaron Donovan said.
Officials said the body of Mannuelpillai was discovered under a train at about 8:30 a.m.
Donovan said the victim was on the tracks and immobile when he was struck by the 7:31 a.m. train from Penn Station to Babylon. But he said there were no obvious signs pointing to how Mannuelpillai died.
