Changes on 4 LIRR Port Washington trains
Bus-and-van service will replace four Long Island Rail Road trains at three Port Washington branch stations early Saturday to allow for overnight track inspections, officials said.
LIRR customers will be able to transfer between trains and buses or vans at the Great Neck station and should allow up to 30 minutes of additional travel time in either direction, officials said in a news release Thursday.
The altered schedule means changes to four trains, two eastbound and two westbound.
Trains departing Penn Station at 1:19 a.m. and 3:19 a.m. that normally end at Port Washington will instead end at Great Neck. Customers heading to Port Washington, Plandome and Manhasset can transfer at Great Neck to buses and vans scheduled to meet the two trains.
Westbound trains that normally depart from Port Washington at 2:10 a.m. and 3:40 a.m. will instead originate at Great Neck at their usual stop times (2:20 a.m. and 3:50 a.m., respectively). Customers can board buses and vans at Port Washington, Plandome and Manhasset at the regularly scheduled train departure times and will travel to Great Neck to meet added westbound trains.
The schedule changes are necessary, the LIRR said, because of ultrasonic track inspections conducted by the Sperry Rail Service car. The LIRR said the schedule changes "will impact approximately 65 eastbound customers and 10 to 15 westbound customers."
