A man who deposited a counterfeit check and stole almost $40,000 from his victim has been arrested, police said.

Derrick Henry, 29, of Fulton Avenue, Hempstead, has been charged with third-degree grand larceny following an investigation by the Nassau County police Crimes Against Property Squad, police said.

Henry was arrested Wednesday. He is scheduled for arraignment Thursday in First District Court in Hempstead.

Police said that Henry deposited the check at a Chase Bank branch in Garden City Park on May 4 and then made withdrawals four times for a total of $38,750.

It was not immediately clear what kind of check was deposited by Henry or whether it was tied to a commercial or personal account at the bank.
