A 12-year-old pedestrian trying to cross Sunrise Highway in Seaford was seriously injured when he was struck by a vehicle Tuesday, Nassau police said.

The boy was in the crosswalk of westbound Sunrise Highway at Washington Avenue when a Chevy Impala, which had the green light, struck him about 3:25 p.m., homicide detectives said.

The victim was taken to the hospital, police said.

The driver, 88, stayed at the scene, authorities said, and the Impala was released to her after a safety check was conducted. No crime is suspected, police said.

The crash shut down Sunrise Highway for hours, police said.
