Police: Hempstead man tracked down by cellphone stolen from Hicksville store

A Hempstead man has been charged after police said he broke into a phone store in Hicksville Saturday, only to be tracked down later by police through one of the stolen phones, Nassau County police said.
According to Second Squad detectives, Christopher Lide, 32, of 54 Sutton St., broke the front-door glass of an AT&T cellular phone store at 263 W. Old Country Rd. at about 3 a.m. He took cash and several phones and iPads and left, police said.
About 12 hours later, detectives located Lide through a tracking device on one of the stolen phones as he was driving on the Southern State Parkway. Police stopped him and placed him under arrest.
Lide is charged with third-degree burglary and is scheduled to be arraigned Sunday.
