A social media posting about creepy clowns has prompted a Nassau County school district to request that police increase patrols at its schools.

The Oyster Bay-East Norwich Central School District said on its website Friday that Nassau’s Second Precinct would provide extra patrols.

The district said on its Facebook page that a post on Instagram mentioned Oyster Bay as a possible destination for the clowns.

A police spokesman said the department is aware of reports of creepy clowns; on Wednesday, a student from Malverne High School told police he ran from a knife-wielding clown in Lakeview.

The district, which also notified police in Old Brookville of the posting, said Nassau police “ensured us that there will be extra patrols in around the areas of the schools.”
