Coast Guard: Injured crew member rescued from boat

The U.S. Coast Guard, assisted by Town of Oyster Bay marine constables and EMTs, aided a man injured while working aboard a clam dredge in the Atlantic Ocean on Tuesday, officials said.
The crew member, who suffered facial lacerations and possible head trauma, was later airlifted to Nassau University Medical Center for treatment. His condition was unknown.
The Coast Guard said the incident occurred aboard a 75-foot clam dredge, out of Cape May, N.J., when the crew member, identified only as a 22-year-old man, fell off deck gear.
The vessel was about seven miles south of Fire Island Inlet, headed toward Jones Inlet, when the incident occurred, according to the Coast Guard.
A 47-foot motor life boat with an emergency medical technician aboard was dispatched from Station Jones Beach. The Coast Guard said the Oyster Bay town constables also responded with an EMT. The crew member was then evacuated from the vessel and transported to the Coast Guard station at Jones Beach, where he was airlifted to NUMC.
