A man suffering from chest pains was rescued off Jones Beach Wednesday night after his boating companion reported they were beginning to suffer from seasickness, the U.S. Coast Guard said.

The boaters were aboard a 25-foot vessel when they made a distress call at about 7:15 p.m., reporting they were unable to operate the vessel, the Coast Guard said.

Coast Guard officials broadcast an urgent marine assistance request to any nearby mariners to help, and a crew on a 47-foot motor life boat set off from the Jones Beach Coast Guard station.

The crew got to the boaters at about 7:45 p.m., officials said, and took the unidentified 50-year-old man who was suffering chest pains back to their station. An ambulance transported the boater to South Nassau Communities Hospital in Oceanside, officials said.

His condition was not immediately known early Thursday.
