Bomb squad detectives established a safe zone for several hours around an unattended package in the Green Acres Mall parking lot in Valley Stream Monday afternoon, but the package contained nothing harmful, Nassau police said.

A customer near the Target store notified authorities about 1:50 p.m. that he saw in a parking stall near the Target store a 10-inch by 10- inch cardboard box containing an oval-shaped piece of metal, police said.

The package was evaluated by bomb squad detectives with the use of robotics, police said, and it was found to be a steel compressor. The area was reopened before 6 p.m., police said.
