Two workers were injured Monday morning when they were pinned under a conveyor belt at an Oceanside recycling center, police said.
The Nassau County police emergency service unit and Oceanside firefighters were called to Earth Tech Recycling on Wood Street at 10:20 a.m., where the two workers were trapped underneath a conveyor belt that fell on top of them, police said.
Police and firefighters helped lift the conveyor belt off the two men, ages 62 and 68. The 62-year-old man was taken by ambulance to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries, police said.
The 68-year-old worker was airlifted by Nassau County police helicopter with serious injuries. The man, who was not identified, was listed in critical but stable condition, police said.
Company officials could not be reached for comment Monday afternoon.
The company says on its website that it "offers eco-friendly recycling solutions for contractors," including processing concrete, bricks, asphalt and dirt.
