Cop impersonator sought after two incidents
Nassau police believe an unidentified man impersonated a police officer in two instances when he struck a car and pulled over another motorist in Baldwin and East Meadow on Sunday night.
Police said the 30- to 40-year-old suspect wore a crew cut, tan cargo shorts and a white tank top with a gold star-shaped badge around his neck when he drove a white Mitsubishi Galant into a male victim's 2005 Toyota at about 7 p.m. on Grand Avenue in Baldwin.
Police said the suspect identified himself as a police officer and asked for the victim's license and registration.
The victim complied but became suspicious and ran across the street to a fire station.
Two hours later, police said, the suspect pulled over a 21-year-old man who was driving a 1996 Honda on Merrick Avenue in East Meadow. But the victim drove off.
Detectives ask anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS. All callers will remain anonymous.
