Cops: 2 charged in New Cassel street robbery
Two men were charged with robbing another man of his gold chain on a street in New Cassel, Nassau County police said.
The two New Cassel residents, Ricky Ward, 32, of 23 Grayson St., and Jermaine Hill, 23, of 813 Prospect Ave., were charged with threatening to use a firearm to rob the man of cash and a gold neck chain about 11:35 p.m. Monday on Prospect Avenue, but no weapon was recovered, police said.
Officers saw the three men on the street and one of the men yelled that his chain had been stolen, leading to the arrests, police said in a Tuesday afternoon news release.
Ward also was charged with two prior burglaries based on "evidence left behind at the scene" of the break-ins, police said.
The two men were awaiting arraignment in First District Court in Hempstead. Hill faces two counts of second-degree robbery and one count of third-degree criminal possession of a weapon; Ward was charged with two counts of second-degree robbery, two counts of third-degree burglary, one count third-degree larceny and one count third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, police said.
