Cops: 2 rob East Meadow Walmart at gunpoint
Two men in black ski masks, one armed with a handgun, robbed a Walmart on Hempstead Turnpike in East Meadow as the store was preparing to close, police said.
No one was injured in the Monday night incident and the robbers left with cash, police said.
Nassau County police said the robbery took place at 11:15 p.m. Closing time is midnight, according to Walmart's website.
Police said one robber ordered a 25-year-old male employee to the floor, while the other approached a 30-year-old male employee at the customer service desk, stealing cash. The two then fled. They were dressed in black.
"They're in and out within six or seven minutes," said Det. Lt. Raymond Coté, head of the Williston Park-based Third Squad detectives, who are looking for the robbers.
Police on Long Island typically do not publicize the amount stolen, to discourage theft.
Detectives are looking at the security-camera footage and are trying to determine what kind of vehicle the suspects fled in, police said.
Police are asking anyone with information about the robbery to call Crime Stoppers at 800-244-TIPS.
