Cops: 2 sought for questioning in woman’s Riverhead disappearance
Detectives say they want to talk to a man and a woman seen in the company of another woman who was missing for almost a week from a Riverhead motel in June and cannot account for her whereabouts during that period.
The woman, 42, was reported missing from the Swiss Motel on West Main Street on June 6, Riverhead Town police said in a crime alert with surveillance photographs released Friday by the Suffolk County Police Department.
The missing woman was last seen getting into a 1990s Chevrolet sport utility vehicle with a man on June 6 at the hotel, according to Det. Sgt. Edward Frost of the Riverhead police.
The missing woman called a friend on June 11 and the friend met her at a diner in Westbury, brought her back to Riverhead and called police, Frost said.
Frost said the woman, who lived at the hotel, “could not account for her whereabouts” during the time she was missing, but he declined to provide details about the woman.
He said police have been actively investigating the case since June, and decided to release surveillance photos now because, “our investigation turned stale.”
“We’re looking, basically, into filling in the blanks on what she said doing,” the detective said.
Police said they want to question the man and woman seen in the surveillance images. The man was seen on surveillance video on June 6 in Riverhead, police said, and the woman was seen on surveillance video in Westbury.
Police did not say whether they suspected criminality, but offered a cash reward of up to $5,000 for information leading to an arrest.
Anyone with information on the case was asked to call Crime Stopper at 800-220-8477.
