Cops: 3 in car arrested on weapons charges
The car was on the wrong side of the street, so officers stopped it Tuesday afternoon in Roosevelt, Nassau police said.
The officers found a black .40-caliber handgun "protruding from a handbag" on the floor of the 2001 Honda, police said Wednesday, and they arrested the three occupants, seizing a bag of marijuana, prescription medications and two gravity knives.
The incident occurred on Willet Place at 4:28 p.m.
Police said it was then that officers stopped the car after spotting it "being operated on the wrong side of the road."
One of the occupants, identified by police as Ronald Wright, 33, of 481 Maple Ave. in Uniondale, began making "numerous suspicious movements" behind the wheel. Police removed Wright from the car, as officers interviewed the two passengers -- Megan Stallinger, 26, of Virginia, and Jazmyne Wright, 16, of 135 Grenada Ave., Roosevelt.
Jazmyne is the daughter of Ronald Wright, police said.
Ronald Wright was charged with six counts of criminal possession of a weapon, three counts of seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, endangering the welfare of a child, controlled substance not in a container and two vehicle and traffic law violations. Jazmyne Wright and Stallinger were each charged with two counts of criminal possession of a weapon and two counts of possession of a dangerous weapon.
All are scheduled for arraignment Wednesday in First District Court in Hempstead.
