Cops: 3 men charged in Hempstead gas station robbery

Three men were arraigned Thursday on robbery and other charges after Hempstead Village police tracked them down when a local gas station was robbed, Nassau police said.

Two men, including one with a black revolver, robbed the Citgo on Fulton Avenue about 9:40 p.m. and escaped in a U-Haul van, police said.

Not long afterward, Hempstead officers stopped the van at Washington Avenue and Nichols Court and arrested the driver, Danyell Greene, 37, of Roosevelt, and a passenger, John Hayes, 40, of Queens, police said.

A second passenger, Prince Robinson, 28, of Queens, ran off and was later captured at a nearby parking lot, police said.

After an investigation, Nassau County robbery and precinct detectives tied Hayes and Robinson to an attempted robbery of Dearborn Deli in Roosevelt at 8:19 p.m. Wednesday, police said.

Hayes, of 80-10 157th St., and Robinson, 107-48 160 St., were each charged with first-degree attempted robbery. Both men and Greene, of 64 W. Clinton St., were charged with first-degree robbery, second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, third-degree criminal possession of a weapon and fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property.

They were arraigned Thursday and each held on a bail of $200,000 bond or $100,000 cash.
