A man was shot in the stomach and seriously wounded Wednesday afternoon in Roosevelt, police said.

Now Nassau County police are searching for the assailants — three men who fled the scene in a red Dodge Avenger.

The incident occurred on Prospect Avenue at 3:08 p.m., police said. Police were alerted to the shooting by a shot spotter call for gun shots fired.

Police said the incident began as a dispute between the victim, whose identity has not been released, and three men — one of whom then pulled out a handgun and fired five times. At least one shot struck the victim in the stomach area.

The victim was taken to Nassau University Medical Center in serious but stable condition.

Police are asking anyone with information on the shooting to contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS. All calls will remain confidential.
