Three suspects, all on bicycles, attacked a man walking on a street in Freeport late Sunday night, punching the victim in the face and stealing cash before pedaling off, police said.

The robbery occurred at 10:50 p.m. near the intersection of Davis Street and Dutchess Street, Nassau County police said. The victim was chased to a nearby residence with one of the attackers in pursuit before a motion detector set off floodlights at the home -- scaring off the attacker.

The trio left their bicycles at the scene, police said.

Police said the victim, a 51-year-old man, suffered a lacerated lip but refused medical attention at the scene.

The assailants are believed to be in their late teens or possibly their early 20s, police said.

Police ask anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers at 800-244-TIPS. All calls will remain confidential.
