An 18-year-old walking along a street Thursday night in Freeport was jumped by a trio of teenage robbers who stole his cellphone, police said.

The robbery took place at 8:10 p.m. on Jay Street.

Nassau County police said the robbers were believed to be 16 or 17 years old. Police said the three had been standing at the corner of East Milton Street when the victim walked past.

The three then ran after the victim, police said, knocking him to the ground, where they punched him in the head -- and demanded his money.

The robbers went through the victim's pockets, taking his phone, police said.

Police ask anyone with information about the robbery to call Crime Stoppers at 800-244-TIPS. All calls will remain confidential.
