Cops: 4 teens arrested after loaded gun found in car

Four Nassau teens were arrested early Wednesday, charged with weapons possession and possession of stolen property, after state police troopers found a loaded handgun in their car during a traffic stop in Baldwin, police said.

Nassau County police said the stop and arrests occurred on Grand Avenue after the suspect's vehicle, a 2010 Chevrolet, passed the troopers at "a high rate of speed" on Sunrise Highway at 1:12 a.m.

During the traffic stop the troopers found the loaded black handgun and "numerous loose live rounds," police said.

The handgun was taken in an Oct. 19 burglary, police said.

Arrested were John F. Robinson, 19, of 544 Grant Ave., Baldwin; Jahvis P. Williams, 19, of 837 Jefferson St., Baldwin; Briana Garland, 19, of 787 Planders Ave., Uniondale; and Latisha D. Grafton, 19, of 57 Grand St., Massapequa.

Robinson was charged with second-degree, third-degree and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon, as well as with operating an unregistered motor vehicle on a highway.

Williams, Garland and Grafton were all charged with second-degree criminal possession of a weapon and fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property, police said.

All four are scheduled for arraignment Thursday in First District Court in Hempstead.
