Cops: 4th arrest in counterfeit shopping spree

A fourth person who took part in a counterfeit $100 bill shopping spree has been arrested, Nassau police said Wednesday.

With the arrest of Shameka Harris, 22, of Roosevelt, police said all suspects involved in the crime have been caught. Harris is charged with criminal possession of a forged instrument.

Police said four people -- Harris; Ramel Epps, 23, of Freeport; Frederick Barrett, 31, of Hempstead; and Brattie Guerra, 21, of Freeport -- walked into a CVS in Rockville Centre on March 23 and bought merchandise using counterfeit $100 bills. Police said Epps and Barrett returned to the CVS at 598 Merrick Rd. after midnight on March 24 and tried to do it again, using additional counterfeit money.

Police said store employees recognized the men and called Rockville Centre police. Epps and Barrett were arrested, and an investigation revealed they had 55 of the counterfeit $100 bills in their possession. Epps was charged with 31 counts of criminal possession of a forged instrument, and Barrett was charged with 19 counts of criminal possession of a forged instrument.

On March 28, police announced that Guerra was arrested and charged with 13 counts of second-degree criminal possession of a forged instrument.

Harris, of 116 Fulton Ave., is scheduled to be arraigned in First District Court in Hempstead on Thursday.
