Eight people were injured in two separate crashes Saturday night that caused a one-hour closure of the Northern State Parkway, state police said.

Police said all of the victims were taken to hospitals with minor injuries.

In the first crash, four people were rushed to hospitals after a three-vehicle rollover crash on the highway's westbound lane just east of Exit 27 Searingtown at 7:50 p.m., police said.

Four other people were hurt in a two-vehicle crash in the eastbound lanes near the same exit about 30 minutes later.

The second crash happened because motorists were watching the aftermath of the first crash, police said.

The Northern State Parkway reopened shortly before 9 p.m., police said.

The police investigation continues.
