Nassau police are investigating damage at a memorial to a Port Authority captain who died in the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.

Police said a Town of Oyster Bay safety officer patrolling the Captain Kathy Mazza Memorial Park on Elm Avenue in South Farmingdale early Saturday found numerous flowers torn from the ground and thrown about the property, along with branches ripped from surrounding trees.

Police also said interlocking bricks from a retaining wall at the memorial site were removed and tossed about the property.

Detectives ask anyone with information call Crime Stoppers at 800-244-TIPS. All callers will remain anonymous.
