Cops: Alleged gunman arrested in court
A gunman who fled a Hicksville business in April after his handgun was wrestled from him, was arrested Wednesday when he showed up at a Mineola court on an unrelated matter, police said.
Jesus Bellamy, 26, of 196 Valcour Ave., Uniondale, was charged with first degree robbery, criminal use of a firearm and criminal possession of a weapon.
Bellamy went to Credit Solutions, 550 W. Old Country Rd., in Hicksville on April 20, demanding money for work he had done, Nassau police said.
During a confrontation with the company president, Bellamy pulled out a gun, continued to demand money and made threats, police said.
When Bellamy fled, he left a baseball cap behind, police said. Forensic testing on DNA evidence from the cap identified Bellamy, police said, although initially, police were unable to locate him.
Bellamy was arrested at County Court in Mineola by officers of the Bureau of Special Operations.
He was to be arraigned Thursday in First District Court, Hempstead.
