Eighth Squad detectives are looking for an armed burglar who took cash, a cellphone and jewelry from a Plainview couple Wednesday, Nassau County police said.

Police said the burglar, who had a handgun, confronted an Azalea Court homeowner, 84, who was returning from a shopping trip at about 12:30 p.m.

The armed man ordered the victim into a room where his wife, 77, was watching television. The burglar demanded cash and also took credit cards, jewelry and a cellphone, police said.

As the intruder ransacked bedrooms upstairs, the two homeowners were able to call police and activate a home alarm, police said.

The burglar then left on foot in an unknown direction, police said. Neither homeowner was injured.

Anyone with information can call Crime Stoppers at 800-244-8477. All calls will be kept confidential.
