Nassau County police are searching for an armed man who they say tried to rob a bank in Island Park on Friday.

Police said the man went to the Bank of America branch at 147 Long Beach Rd. at 11:42 a.m. Friday and handed to a 34-year-old female employee a note that demanded money.

The man threatened to use a gun that was in a holster on his right hip, but then took the note back from the employee and ran away without any money, police said.

Police said the man was described as between 40 and 45 years old, thin, and 5 feet, 10 inches tall. He wore a long-sleeved white T-shirt with a yellow patch on the left breast pocket and a white and blue patch on the left shoulder, black pants, a black baseball cap with white and red letters and dark sunglasses.

Police said there were two customers and six employees in the bank at the time of the robbery attempt, but no one was injured.

Police ask anyone with information about this case to contact Nassau County Crime Stoppers at 800-244-TIPS. Callers will be kept anonymous.
